                                                                              Taunggyi & Its Environment
      Taunggyi (Shan State)
      
Taunggyi, the capital city of shan state in the eastern part of Myanmar,
is known for its scenic beauty and pleasantly cool climate.
Situated over 1,400 meters above sea- level, Taunggyi is a popluar
Summer resort.
The market, on every fifth day is crowded with ethnic
minorities. In their traditioal dresses. The journey from Taunggyi down to
Inle Lake takes about an hour.

        It is the capital of Shan state and of beautiful with clean inter-roads,
especially the brighter cherry flowers are covering the roads and the best
place for leisure walk.
Shan State Museum and Gem market should
be your visiting points. It is one of the major business centres for China’s
products. 
“Hot ballon contest”, a traditional Shan festival, is the most
  crowed public fare and usually held in Tazaungdine (November) annually.
     Kalaw
      Kalaw, another hill station, is 1400 meters above sea-level. Many of the
  Tudor-Style houses and English gardens of colonial days remain. It is
  located 70km west of Taunggyi. Kalaw, a peaceful summer resort nestled
  in pine-clod mountains. Nearby are villages of
Palaung and other hill
  tribes who come to Kalaw market in their colourful consumes, adding
  to the quiet attraction of Kalaw.
      Pindaya and Golden Caves

     Pindaya, 45km from Kalaw, is a small picturesque town at the foot of
 Mene mountain range. It is famous for its Caves in which six thousands of
 Buddha images have been placed or carved for many centuries. The
 caves at the entrance, a 15 meter high
Shwe U Min Pagoda.
     It is a small uphill town and famous for ‘Golden Caves’ but the town
 itself has some curious points, such as the traditional paper production,
 ancient monastries and umbrella workshops.
     ‘The Golden Caves’ is acturally some elevation above the town and
 accessed through the way under the shady century old banyan trees. The
  main cave is fully packed with a variety of Buddha-images, stupas, figures,and embellishments along its length datable not
  earlier than 16th century. Curiously, Indian style images and donors are experienced in a reasonable number. The cool breeze
  and panoramic view on the environs, including Ponetaloke lake at a distance are of fantasic and incredible.
      Kakku

     It is becoming in a few years and basically composed of about 2500
  pagodas in the heart of
Pa-O territory, some 26 miles away from
  Taunggyi. On the way, one of Pa-O villages and their life-styles could be
  appreciated. Remarkably, most pagodas are comparatively small in size
  but embellished with find stucco-   carvings like Bagan.
