Pindaya and Golden Caves
Pindaya,
45km from Kalaw, is a small picturesque town at the foot of
Mene mountain range. It is famous for its Caves in which six
thousands of
Buddha images have been placed or carved for many centuries.
The
caves at the entrance, a 15 meter high Shwe
U Min Pagoda.
It is a small
uphill town and famous for ‘Golden
Caves’ but the town
itself has some curious points, such as the traditional paper
production,
ancient monastries and umbrella workshops.
‘The Golden Caves’ is acturally
some elevation above the town and
accessed through the way under the shady century old banyan
trees. The |
|
main cave is fully packed with a variety of Buddha-images, stupas,
figures, and embellishments along its length datable not
earlier than 16th century. Curiously, Indian style images and
donors are experienced in a reasonable number. The cool breeze
and panoramic view on the environs, including Ponetaloke lake
at a distance are of fantasic and incredible. |
Kakku
It is becoming
in a few years and basically composed of about 2500
pagodas in the heart of Pa-O
territory, some 26 miles away from
Taunggyi. On the way, one of Pa-O villages and their life-styles
could be
appreciated. Remarkably, most pagodas are comparatively small
in size
but embellished with find stucco- carvings like Bagan. |
