                                                                              Mawlamyine & Its Environment
     Mawlamyine
      
     The capital of the Mon state, Mawlamyine is an attractive, leafy, tropical
  port with a ridge of stupa-capped hills one side and the sea on the other. It
  is also Myanmar’s fourth Largest city. About 300km away from Yangon, it
  can be reached by road and by rail and by a 40 minute flight from Yangon.
  Sites to see in Mawlamyine are
Kyaikthanlan Pagoda, Uzena Pagoda,
  Caves of Kawgoon and Payon,
  famous for its countless Buddha
  images, stalagmites and stalactites.
It is located on the river bank of Thanlwin, just across to Mottama ( historic
Martarban formerly ). The city and its environ have reputated as the centre
of rubber ( white-gold ), and tropical monsoon fruits of durian, mangosteen,
rambantan, and so on. The Edwardian villas and some visiting spots could be enjoyed.
       Kyaikthanlan Pagoda
    It is the prettiest point of the city and adorned with of the Buddha and his  numerous followers in
  voyaging position. Curiously,  a bronze bell having the curse in English could also be enjoyed.
     Seindon monastery
    Once of the queens of King Mindon, queen Seindon left Mandalay for Mawlamying. To cure her home-sick of Yatanabon
 Mandalay and Myanansankyaw palace, she built a monastery in simulaton of spiral building and a throne.

     Judson Charch
    It is much earlier than Judson Church at Yangon University and was so built to commemorate Mr.Judson who came to
 Myanmar early 19 century and wrote some books, including Judson dictionary.

     Kyaikmaraw Payagyi
    It is actually a large Buddha-image in sitting postion built in 15th century by queen Shin-saw-pu, the grand donor of
 Shwedagon at Yangon.Gardening of fruits should also be dropped.

     Kawgoon cave
    It is located some 28 miles(45km) to the north-east of Mawlamyaing and 8 miles (12km)to the south-west of Pa-an. Like
 “Thousand Buddha-image Cave” in China, the cave is completely inset with thousands of small Buddha-images in row by row.
 Among them crown Buhhha-images and hindu deities are also seen. Mawlamyaing trip could not be completed without the
 visiting of Kawgoon Cave.
    Myoma market and Dawei jetty at Mawlamyaing, rubber plantations and a gigantic reclaing Buddha, the biggest of its kind in
 Myanmar after completion, known as
Win Sein ascetic compound at Mudon, some 18 miles to the south of Mawlamyaing,
 Chaungson and ywalur villages of Belu island should be added if leisure.
     Kyaikkhami Pagoda
     Perched on the rocks by the sea and joined to the land by a covered      causeway is the main attraction.  
     Thanphyzayet

     Thanphyuzayet (Tin Shelter) 65km south of Mawlamyine was the site of
 the infamous Myanmar-Thailand Railway, dubbed the death railway
 by the thousands of Allied prisoners of war and Asian coolies who were
 forced by the Japanese Military to build it. Thanpyuzayet war cemetery
 contains 3771 graves of Allied prisoners of war who died during the
 construction of railway.
    In connection with the Dead Railway, “The Bridge on the River kwai”as
 movies.

     Mudon

     30km from Mawlamyine, about 30 minutes by car. An amazing can be  seen at Win Sein Tawya where the world’s largest
 reclining Buddha Image has been constructing. Tourists will be amazed to see about 200 standing statues of monks.
 Carrying alms-bowls along the long street in the vast garden.

     Pa-an

      The capital of Kayin State, Pa-an is 270 km east of Yangon. It’s famous
 for the fascinating Lungbini Garden with 1120 sitting Buddha Images
  situated in front of Mt Zwe Ka Bin. A visit to this Garden makes an
  unforgettably good memory.
